The path of the Green Dragon

Viet Vo Dao is not a style but a generic term signifying "way of the Vietnamese Martial Arts" that regroups all the Vietnamese Styles, including Thanh Long.

The THANH LONG style was created by the venerable Master Lao Su NGUYEN DAN PHU who passed away in 1999 June 28.

Master Lao Su NGUYEN DAN PHU

Born in North Vietnam, the young NGUYEN Dan Phu had beneficiated, during the first part of his life, of the direct teaching of Masters best-known in whole Vietnam. He left Hanoi to enlist the French Army during the Second World War and moved in France after the hostilities. Master Nguyen Dan Phu was one of the first to introduce Viet Vo Dao in Europe.

Thanh Long means Green Dragon, supple mythic animal, strong, noble, quick-tempered, however, goodness is its greatest virtue. The choice of that name sets the tone of this style. Elegance and fineness of the Thanh Long's techniques are partly explained by Northern Vietnamese origins.

Master Nguyen Dan Phu will have 8 sons who will be all taught martial arts. Concerned by the continuity of his traditional martial art style, in 1991 he recommended each of his sons to create their own Viet Vo Dao School.

The school of the Range of Mountains

The School «Thanh Long Truong Son Vo Duong Quoc Te» draws its origins from the Great THANH LONG School and is lead by its Founder Master Lao Su NGUYEN DAN VIET Gérard, who was taught Vietvodao from his childhood by his father Master NGUYEN DAN PHU.

He has deepened the teachings of his father with a specific orientation into breathing, energies and meditation work.

There are of course many other Viet Vo Dao websites online. These are not necessarily related to the Thanh Long form. There are other schools and Vietnamese martial art forms that are gathered under the same collective name «Viet Vo Dao» (The way of the vietnam). Then comes the form, the school, and the club.
